I mentioned last week that a digital (PDF) version of the book is available on the “Book” of this website page as well for $2.99. So why, you ask, am I promoting a digital version myself and not working with Kindle Direct Publishing or SmashWords? Good question.

The situation has been the source of some frustration for me. The digital book publishers will not accept epub formats, PDF’s, or InDesign documents. The conversion software used by all the digital book publishers is set up to work with MS Word or html. I tried to write the book using MS Word but it was completely counterintuitive for me to write a book about graphic design in a “non-design” environment.

Those of you who have read advance versions of the book know that I restrained my creative impulses and incorporated very simple page design features in the book. I kept the page design to a minimum because I knew that the book would be converted to an epub or digital reader format at some point. It looks as if I’ll be doing quite a bit of copy>paste>copy>paste steps to convert the book in 2013. If you have a better way to take the book from InDesign to MS Word please let me know!
